Description
The IV-18 VFD (Vacuum Fluorescent Display) introduces a novel way of presenting time, hailing from the former Soviet Union. Recognized for its sizable, vibrant digits, this display tube has found favor in various clocks and timekeeping instruments.
At its core, the DS3231 real-time clock chip reigns supreme, bolstered by a backup battery to ensure that time endures even when the power wanes. Its annual clock deviation remains impressively low at 1-2 minutes.
In this upgrade, the introduction of automatic brightness control takes center stage. As daylight dims, the clock seamlessly transitions into night mode, alleviating the harsh glare of its wooden shell. Crafted through CNC machining, this clock boasts a solid wood composition, dispelling any notion of laminated construction. Its rear cover is made of plexiglass, similarly hewn by CNC precision.
A copper embellishment ring adorns the front, reflecting an extensive use of copper elements throughout the clock. Notably, the copper base support employs an age-old technique, giving it a weathered appearance that belies any shortcuts. Far from scrimping, this timepiece exudes an abundance of quality materials, embodying an unassuming yet deliberately retro and slightly audacious allure.
